Coursework preliminary exercise

 1) Write a 100 word statement of intent explaining what you are going to make for your preliminary exercise.

I plan to make a 2 page spread of a magazine focusing on a actor's recently released book and how it gives very controversial advice. The article will talk about how other celebrities react to the situation and if they have any new opinions. The article will also analyse the celebrity's change from Hollywood actor to controversial book writer.

The first page will feature a large, high-quality photograph of the actor in a recent, iconic outfit. The accompanying text will provide a brief summary of who the celebrity is and how they came to be. I'll use a clean, modern font for the headlines and body text to give the spread a sophisticated feel.

The second page will break down specific elements of the celebrity's current situation. I'll include a series of smaller photos, each highlighting book stores that the books are sold at or any other celebrities and people the actor may know, such as friends in the workplace or family members. The text will offer insights into the brands they favour, and I'll add some quotes from other celebrities or the celebrity themselves to make the content more engaging. The page will end with a "get the look" section, offering readers access to places the book can be purchased. The overall tone will be informative.

2) Write an outline for your preliminary exercise on your blog. This needs to include talking points and photo lists. To see how a magazine is presented, and to look at professional examples, check out the following link which gives lot of tips and tricks on how to layout and plan your magazine.

The main cover will include the main things necessary for a magazine cover like a cover line, a banner but most importantly, a cover image. the fonts I will include will be modern and clean to fit the time we live in as very technology dependent and somewhat futuristic.

3) Casting: Who will be in your magazine?
Pritam, Arkash

4) Plan your locations: Where you will shoot your preliminary exercise? (You can take photos off-site if you wish to do this for homework - this is what we would strongly recommend). Important note: You CANNOT take any students out of any other lessons OR disturb any other lessons in the school. If you wish to take shots in-school then you will need to shoot with Mr Ray supervising or after school with a Media teacher present.
I will shoot my photos in densely populated areas such as Westfield or any shopping centre/park to get the imagery of popular and somewhat liked. I can also shoot my photos at home maybe near a wall or maybe in Greenford Broadway as its also a populated area.

5) Write your shot list: every shot you plan to film. This needs to be far MORE shots than you will actually use in the final edited version - plan extra angles, close-ups, long shots and more. You can find an example shot list here. This is for a narrative film but the layout will be the same.
Close up shots - perfect for capturing emotions, make-up and expression
medium close up shot in streets - while the celebrity is walking, talking, chatting etc..
wide and long shot in public - to show outfit, posture, and presence
action shot - while celebrity is walking
extreme close up - to show the expression, reaction and emotion of the celebrity
over the shoulder shot - to show the quotes and dialogue/gossip
establishing shot - to show where the celebrity to reinforce and then zoom into different shots to reinforce celebrity gossip.
close up or extreme close up shots - to show what the celebrity is perhaps holding or doing.
