Preliminary Exercise Feedback and Learner Response
1) Type up your teacher's feedback in full. If you've received your feedback via email, you can simply cut and paste it from the email into your blog.
WWW: You’ve made a solid start here with your choice of cover image. It’s a powerful building to focus the reader’s attention on and really creates a serious tone for the magazine. You’ve attempted a range of clear cover lines which seem to match the tonal goal of the piece with these aligning with the text lining the bottom of the cover.
Your writing is formal and definitely matches the style needed for the magazine. You have chosen a “star” to build your narrative around that can be used to discuss the new book idea of the brief.
Next Steps: Whilst beautiful to look at, the building used in your cover image doesn’t seem to align with the celebrity gossip angle that you seem to be aiming for. It would feel much more relevant in a business or financial magazine. Whilst the cover lines written are relevant, they do get increasingly difficult to read the further down they are due to the busyness of the cover image. Perhaps consider a box or outline for this text to add clarity. In terms of your article, rather than being about the release of a new book speaking to a current social issue, this seems to be more of a memorial text or biographical excerpt based on a former author. This needs to be adapted to fit the outline of the brief, perhaps centred around “Ethan Carter” and his most recent attempt at book writing.
2) Using a combination of your own reflection on the preliminary exercise and the feedback you were given, write two WWW bullet points (What Went Well) and two Next Step bullet points for your preliminary exercise.
3) What have you learned from the preliminary exercise that will help you in the actual coursework project? List three things you have learned or will do differently as a result of this exercise. You may want to comment on organisation, actors, filming, editing or something else entirely but be specific.
